Jira Work Management FAQs
Jira Work Management
We’ve seen how Jira Software and Jira Work Management have helped teams do their best work, so we are bringing together the best of both worlds into one Jira experience that offers what both software and business teams need to collaborate better with each other. Jira Software Cloud has always included all Jira Work Management features in business projects as well as software projects. Now unified, Jira is more streamlined, collaborative, and powerful than ever – read more about what’s new here. |
No, Jira Work Management subscriptions can no longer be purchased. However, you can still access Jira Work Management features by purchasing a Jira subscription, and existing Jira Work Management subscriptions can be renewed up to the migration period to Jira (October 29, 2024 through December 13, 2024). |
Yes, users with a Jira Work Management subscription will continue to have access to Jira Work Management until they are migrated to a Jira subscription or until the end of their contract term, as applicable. |
Jira Work Management subscriptions can no longer be purchased, but all Jira Work Management features are accessible through a Jira subscription. Users on a Jira Work Management subscription will continue to have access to Jira Work Management until they are migrated to a Jira subscription or until the end of their contract term, as applicable. Existing Jira Work Management features will continue to be available in Jira, and customers will continue to have access to existing Jira Work Management issues and projects in Jira. If you choose to opt out of the migration, you will continue to have access to Jira Work Management until the end of your contract term, and your contract will not renew. If you choose to move your users' Jira Work Management subscriptions to Jira subscriptions, you will have to decide between the automatic migration or the manual migration option. After your migration, your Jira subscription will continue to auto-renew at the end of your current contract term. See below FAQs on the migration to assess whether an automatic migration or manual migration is better suited for your organization. If choosing to migrate manually, please follow these instructions. |
No action is needed for users with Jira Software subscriptions, and pricing will remain the same. Jira Software users have already transitioned to the Jira experience and its features today. If you have users with access to Jira Work Management through a Jira Software subscription, you will not have to migrate users and will not be eligible for the discount. Migrations and discounts are only available to customers with a standalone Jira Work Management subscription. |
We will automatically transition customers to Jira at the beginning of 2025, unless you decide to opt out of the automatic migration. If opting out of the automatic migration, your options are either to do a manual migration to a Jira subscription or not renew your Jira subscription. If you previously had a Jira Software subscription, your Jira Work Management users will now be transitioned to a new Jira subscription. If you have separate Jira Work Management and Jira subscriptions, your Jira Work Management and Jira users will be merged into one Jira subscription. If the merged users from Jira Work Management do not fit into the current subscription tier of your existing Jira subscription, the Jira subscription will be upgraded to the next user tier, at no additional cost, for the remainder of your contract. If your Jira Software edition is different than your Jira Work Management edition, the edition of your new Jira subscription will be the higher of the two. For more information, see this FAQ External Spork Blog Post FAQs | What if my Jira Software edition is different from my Jira Work Management edit... If you do not have a current Jira Software subscription at the time of migration, you will be given a Jira subscription for the same number of users at no extra cost. After the user migration period, all impacted Jira Work Management customers will receive a 10% discount* toward Jira subscriptions, applied at your next renewal. Upon renewal, customers will renew at the current pricing for the license and tier of their Jira subscription. Customers may see a jump in pricing due to a higher product edition and user tier provided by the automatic migration. Pricing on renewals may vary depending on changes in user tier, plan, and/or licensing. *This discount only applies to customers with Jira Work Management subscriptions migrating to Jira subscriptions. Customers who are eligible to receive the 10% discount off Jira (valid for up to 12 consecutive months) will get the discount applied at their next renewal after migration. This discount does not apply to free Jira plans or users who have access to Jira Work Management through a Jira Software subscription. It also does not apply retroactively to existing Cloud subscriptions that were not purchased pursuant to this promotional offer. Atlassian may modify or cancel promotions at any time, and this page does not obligate Atlassian to extend any specific promotions for any specified period of time. To see whether you qualify for this limited-time promotional offer, please contact your rep or Atlassian Support. |
If you have a current Jira Work Management subscription, we will be offering a 10% discount towards your Jira subscription to help make this transition easier. This discount does not apply to free Jira plans or users who have access to Jira Work Management through a Jira Software subscription. For more details on the discount, see above. Please note that the automatic migrations may provide customers with a higher edition or user tier that may result in higher prices for their next Jira renewal. Pricing on renewals may vary depending on changes in user tier, plan, and/or licensing. If you have any specific questions about your organization’s pricing, please reach out to your dedicated rep or Atlassian Support. |
If you cancel your Jira Work Management subscription at any point, you will be unable to reactivate it and will be ineligible for the 10% discount. You will need to subscribe to Jira to maintain access to your projects and will be ineligible for the 10% Jira discount. For more details on the discount, see above. |
Users on a Jira Software subscription will have access to all the new features and capabilities in Jira. There is no action needed for these users Users on a Jira Work Management subscription will continue to have access to Jira Work Management until they are migrated to a Jira subscription or until the end of their contract term, as applicable. User migrations will begin in early 2025 – several months in advance of your migration, we will provide more details on next steps and your options. If you choose to opt-out of the user migration, you will continue to have access to Jira Work Management until the end of your contract term. |
If you would like to migrate users from a Jira Work Management subscription to a Jira subscription before the automatic migration in early 2025, you will need to migrate manually. If choosing to migrate manually, please follow these instructions. |
Existing Jira Work Management business projects in the same Jira instance will be unaffected as we update your subscription and there will be no need to migrate data. All existing business project functionality that was available with Jira Work Management subscriptions will continue to be available in Jira. |
Customers managed by Atlassian solution partners will have the same user migration process as all Jira Work Management customers. Customers that want to keep their Jira license will need to choose between the automatic migration or manual migration. The user migration will occur within your contractual term and will not increase the cost for the remaining term duration. If you want to opt out of automatic migration to either migrate manually or end your subscription, please follow the instructions manually migrate and have your organization admin fill out the opt out form.

If you have an existing Jira Software subscription, then your Jira Work Management and Jira Software users will be merged into one Jira subscription during the migration process. Your new Jira subscription will be the higher edition as between your existing Jira Software and Jira Work Management subscriptions (for example, if you have Jira Work Management Standard and Jira Software Premium, your new Jira subscription will be Premium and users will be migrated into Jira Premium). Upon renewal of your new Jira subscription, pricing may vary depending on changes to your user tier, plan, and/or edition type, and may result in additional fees. Please note that you may also see a fee increase for your existing Marketplace App subscriptions (for example, a change in your user tier may require a corresponding app upgrade). If you have questions about the impact to your bill, please reach out to Atlassian Support for more information. If you are a customer with a dedicated sales representative, you may contact your dedicated account representative directly. |
During the user migration from Jira Work Management to Jira, it’s possible that you may see an increase in the user tier of your current plan. This may happen if the number of users migrated from your Jira Work Management subscription is more than your current user tier on Jira Software. If that happens, you will not see an increase in price for the higher user tier for the remainder of your current billing term. Your next billing term will take into account your post-migration user count plus the 10% discount. For more details on the discount, see above. |
Since Marketplace apps are provided by third parties, we are unable to provide any specific details as each app will differ. Apps are designed to be compatible with all Jira products, so we do not anticipate any changes in functionality. Depending on the app, some may require re-authentication or re-configuration. If you have a Jira Work Management subscription and also have Jira apps, you may see an increase in the total bill after the user migration process due to changes in user tiers. For customers who face an increase in the user tier, you will not see a billing change from apps for the remainder of your current billing term. In your next billing term, you might see changes in cost depending on your post-migration user count. |
Jira Work Management is not available in Data Center, therefore Jira Software Data Center will remain unchanged. |
Jira Work Management users with an Atlassian Together subscription will be migrated to a Jira instance. These users will continue to have access to all the features in Jira Work Management, and after migration will be better integrated with teams who are currently using Jira Software. Access to Confluence and Trello will not change and Atlas features will become part of the platform and available to all Atlassian customers. For more information, check out the Atlassian Together FAQs. |
Users on a Jira Service Management subscription will still be able to access business projects, but not software projects. There are no plans to change this at this time. |
Yes, customers with an active Jira Work Management subscription can still change their product edition or user tier until they migrate to Jira. |
There are two options to migrate users from an existing Jira Work Management to a Jira subscription – automatic migration or manual migration. The automatic migration of users from Jira Work Management to Jira is the easiest path for unifying your users on one Jira instance. This option will allow your organization to maintain the existing permissions between Jira Work Management users and Jira users, and automatically receive the 10% pricing discount applied to your next Jira renewal. In contrast, the manual migration has more steps and is more prone to user error – we only recommend going this route if it’s necessary based on your setup. The 10% pricing discount is also applicable but must be applied manually through a support ticket before your next renewal. Unless your organization’s situation does not qualify for an automatic migration (see below for more details), it’s strongly recommended as the easiest path to migrating users to a Jira license. |
If you are planning to migrate automatically, you do not need to cancel your Jira Work Management subscription. As part of the automation, we’ll do that work for you. If you need a manual migration, you will need to cancel your Jira Work Management subscription, but only after you have migrated users into Jira as per these instructions. |
No. No separate data migration is required regardless of whether you choose an automatic or manual migration. During the manual migration, you may see a message alerting you to the possibility of data deletion. So long as you maintain an active Jira instance, you won’t lose any data during the migration and you can disregard that message. |
Customers may choose to opt out of the automatic migration process from October 29, 2024 through December 13, 2024. Your Organization Admin should submit the opt-out form on behalf of your organization. If you choose to opt out, you have two choices: You can choose to manually migrate your Jira Work Management subscription to Jira before the end of your subscription term, which will renew on Jira. You can choose to do nothing after opting out, and your Jira Work Management subscription will expire at the end of your contract period. By choosing to opt out of a migration, you are not entitled to any refunds for the remainder of your contract nor an early cancellation of your contract. You will be able to submit an opt-out form starting October 29, 2024. We strongly recommend that your organization adds one of your Organization Admins as a Billing Admin role. This will ensure that they receive all the relevant emails during the migration. To learn more about the steps required to add a Billing Admin, learn more here. |

If you are on a Jira Cloud Enterprise Edition (CEE) and choose the automatic migration, there is one difference for you. Customers on Jira Cloud Enterprise must request the 10% discount on the Jira list price at your next renewal, as the discount cannot be applied automatically. Please work with your dedicated representative, or reach out to Atlassian Support to have the discount applied to your next renewal. |
Between the two migration options, Atlassian strongly recommends the automatic migration path for simplicity and a better user experience. However, there are some circumstances where an automatic migration is not possible. If you have questions about which option is best for you, please reach out to your Atlassian representative or contact support before the end of the opt-out period on December 13, 2024. Please refer to the table below to see which path is best for your organization:
*Please note that the automatic 10% discount may only be applied to automatic migration. Customers that do a manual migration must submit a ticket upon their next renewal in order to receive the discount. Details on how to do are in the manual migration instructions. |
If your organization does not qualify for an automatic migration or you choose to migrate yourself for another reason, please follow the full detailed step-by-step instructions for the manual migration here. |
Please contact the support team to get any issues resolved. |
Yes, customers can still opt in to the automatic migration until December 13, 2024. Please contact Atlassian support as soon as possible to get your instance added to the automatic migration. |
Your organization’s subscription to Jira Work Management will continue until your contract ends, but your contract will not renew for this product. |
Yes, you can add new users after the migration to Jira and in between your next contract renewal. If you’re on a monthly billing plan and add extra users, you will be charged Jira pricing for the total new user count in the following month, with the 10% discount applied on top of the updated bill. This is no different from how monthly billing works, as your monthly bill is always calculated based on the user count at the end of each month. If you’re on an annual billing plan and add extra users, your bill will only change if you exceed your user limit and you accept the new quote. If you add more users than your current user limit, you will be sent a quote to upgrade and charged Jira pricing for the total new user count. Your bill will not be impacted if your total new user count is within your current user limits. |
If your organization is having issues working through the documentation for the manual migration, please contact Atlassian support for help and explain your current step in the process. |
